Selecting your Poster Sports/Clubs
Lets make a list of all the sports and clubs and divide them up so that we all know who we will be working for on our posters. You will need to be going out and taking pictures of these teams and clubs in action. Please keep that in mind.

A-Z
NOTE: THE TECH GUYS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET US INTO THE ADOBE SUITE UNTIL NEXT WEEK. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY DELAY THIS MAY CAUSE IN GETTING YOUR SUMMER MOVIES FINISHED. I WILL GIVE YOU 2 WEEKS TO FINALIZE THEM ONCE YOU GET THE SOFTWARE, BUT IN THE MEAN TIME FILM IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.
You will be taking photo's that represent the letters of the alphabet. I want you to find an image that resembles each letter of the alphabet and take about 5-10 pictures per letter.
Example:
The letter 'A'
It
doesn't matter if it is right side up or up side down. If you see the
letter within the space snap the shot. Some letters are going to come
very easily, but others are going to be very difficult. After this
assignment is done you should have taken about 260 photo's or more. I
don't want you only taking one picture for the letter A. I want 10
different pictures. Then you can choose the best on once you have
finished taking all of your 10 shots. REMEMBER: PEOPLE NEVER TAKE
ENOUGH PICTURES. You are not wasting any film, so shoot away.
The letter 'R'
Don't
forget to follow the RULE OF THIRDS for most pictures. Pay attention
to the light source and also pay attention to your angles. Get down
low, up high or even upside down to take some GOOD QUALITY pictures.
Don't fit in with everyone else, I want you to STAND OUT FROM THE REST!
KEEP THESE THINGS IN MIND WHEN SHOOTING:
RULE OF THIRDS-of course
SHAPE- what is forming the letter
FOCAL POINT-get closer or zoom in on your focal point.
BALANCE-Does your artwork look balanced? Is it to empty on one side opposed to the other.
CONTRAST-Look at the dark and light colors next to each other-it will be more interesting if you show higher areas of contrast.
REFLECTED LIGHT-I would like you to try using a white piece of paper to create reflected light if possible in this lesson.
HARD/SOFT
LIGHT- I would also like for you to try to use soft or hard light in
one of the successful ways they showed us in the video.

This Course:
So first I want to give you an overview of how I have designed this course. Here are the main areas that we are going to be covering throughout this school year.
1. Learn about good quality picture taking.
2. Learn how to run, operate and create banners using the Large Poster Printer.
*You will all become Employees for a Company in which you are going to design.
*I will be going over some Graphic Design Layouts to teach you how to make Awesome Posters.
*You will be working with Adults closely to find out what they are looking for.
More to come on this later.
3. You will be learning how to use After Effects. We will be watching video's starting with the most basic steps to learning After Effects.
* I will be giving you mini lessons on a weekly basis using After Effects. You will have an assignment due with each mini lesson.
4. We will work on Storyboards and storylines a bit more in depth. Hopefully getting a little better story ideas in you movies.
5. I will be teaching you about lighting and some sound effects a little bit too.
6. And of course you will be making Movies.
But I want a little bit of your input. So go ahead and get connected to the new site and I want you all to post a comment. I want to know what kind of films you would like to create this school year that we didn't get a chance to create last year. Give me topics, themes anything you can think of that you would like to create. And tell me if there is anything else you would like to do and cover this year in this course. I would love your input. Also in your post tell me how your filming went for your Summer- Action Movie. Also please tell me how much time you think you will need on the editing once you get After Effects (if needed) onto your computer. I'm willing to give you some time to complete the final video as we will have lots of other stuff to work on before hand.
That's all I've got for our first day back. I'm looking forward to this school year. I can't wait to see what you will all create as you are all so very talented.

Summer Assignment
Advanced Students Summer Assignment
Over the Summer I would like you to take some time out of your busy schedules to create an ACTION Film. I want you to start thinking about what type of mood or expression you are trying to send to your viewer. In this film I would like you to try to give a sense of suspicion
1. Choose an Action Subject Film you would like to create.
-fill the viewer with an identical mixture of exhilaration and dread. You holler at Indiana Jones' fistfight on the flying wing, then scream when the Ark starts blowing up Nazis. You cackle with glee when Arnold Schwarzenegger blows away the T-1000. The perfect summer movie hits you on a gut level, or maybe several gut levels, and takes you on an emotional roller coaster. Actually, the roller coaster -- that other beloved purveyor of summer entertainment -- represents the ideal metaphor for the perfect summer movie: excitement and terror that's safe for the whole family.
2. Choose a Scene that fits the Best place for your movie to take place.
-You may end up having multiple locations for your film. But map it out and decide where you want to film and what scenes you will film there. Think about background noise as you are working.
3. Choose who you want to be in your film and what exactly there characters will be.
-Write a script for your characters so they fully understand what is expected of them.
4. Think about your Camera Angles
-Try to use more then one camera if possible and shoot some scenes closer up and some further back.
Re-look at this video on Camera shots- try to focus on doing some new ones to you and your group.
5. HAVE FUN with it.
-This should be fun and hopefully get you more excited about things we will do next year as you will now be stuck with me all year:)-I'm really looking forward to having an Advanced class with all of you and can't wait to see what you will come up with next year and over the summer. Feel free to email me with questions @ cnofel@kent.edu. I always check it and will get back to you when I can.
6. Lastly-I would like you to learn a bit about After Effects
-by watching some video's to get you started. It can get difficult, as I don't know much myself (but hope I will learn over the summer) so watch video's and try to do those things you learn with parts of your films.
