Signature Logo

I have decided to make one small change to your Video Montage.  Instead of creating a unique title to the video I am going to have you create a signature logo opening clip like you see in movies.  This is something you will put into all of your movies from here on out.  So once you create this save it as its own movie to use in the future.

Here are some examples of what I am looking for or have in mind:

Putting your Pics together

Your 75 pictures are due today.  You should have 3 sets of 25 (or so) pictures that represent your 3 different emotions from your story.

Here is what you will be doing with your pictures:

1.  Choose your best photos (at least 5 or more from each section, so 15+ in all)
2.  You will be creating your first larger assignment using After Effects to put them all together.
3.  In After Effects you need to create an opening with a title that best describes your story or emotions, depends on your preference.
4.  You need to have a song that best represents your story-this can be hard to find, but try to find one that portrays at least a portion of your story or an emotion you are portraying.  The rhythm of the song should reflect the mood you want people to feel when they view your video.
5.  All of your BEST photos should be in the video in chronological order according to your story.
6.  You must have an end note of some sort-who it was created by and/or a quote of something that would go along with your story/emotions you are portraying.

You will have all week in class to work on this.  It will be due on FRIDAY November 30th.  I recommend working on it out of school too in order to get it all done.

Thanksgiving Break

Due Monday:  Your 3rd set of emotion pictures.

What are we going to be doing with all of these pictures?

This is something you can start to put together over break since you will have more time.  We are going to take our best photos that represent our emotion from our story and put them into a movie.  This will be more like a slide show movie.  You will put them in chronological order (like you saw from the girl in the river).

Everyone will need to make a unique opening title using effects in After Effects that represents your pictures.

You then need to find a song that you feel represents your story and emotions in the best possible way.  We will be doing something more with the song and your story after break.  The song may be the hardest thing to find.  I've been looking for one for mine for about a week now.  I have narrowed it down to a few, but it is hard to find just one song that portrays your emotion/feelings/story all in one that really pertains to me and my situation.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

I hope you are all aware of the things you are thankful for this holiday season, and hope you tell those people who mean the world to you just that.  I know I am thankful to have each of you as my students.  I have learned so much from a lot you and am grateful for just that and hope you all know that you are special to me.  Have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving Break.

Emotional Pics that portray a message

You don't have to tell your viewer everything you want them to know within your photo-you want to leave your viewer wondering and curious.  This will leave an impression on your viewer that will make them remember your artwork.  Your ultimate goal is to have people stop and look and ask questions in their own head about your artwork/photo.  You want to draw people in.  HOW CAN YOU DO THIS?  By giving your viewer cues that will make them curious about what is going on in your picture, something in the background or the location or an image that is put into your picture.  Or just an expression on the face or body language.

Today in class I will be checking your 1st or 2nd set of pics and Yearbook designs if I haven't seen them already.

My Examples of Pics

I decided to shoot my 2nd set of pictures since I couldn't go out to Kent.  So my Expression was Extreme Sadness.   Here are 3 photos that I edited in Photoshop to get the correct color that I was looking for to help portray my message.

I tried to show little color- to portray a dark time in my life that was not filled with much color in my heart.    I hope these help you to see my vision for you.

Next Step

FIRST SET OF PICTURES DUE TOMORROW-FRIDAY 11/16/12 AND YEARBOOK DESIGNS DUE TOO.
My Story
 Example of the next step:

Break your story up into 3 different emotional sections.  How did you feel before the event that happened to you(this would be the beginning)?  Then how did you feel in the middle or climax of your story?  And finally how did you feel at the end of your story.   This is general as everyones stories are so different and will vary.

Section 1- Happiness

Section 2- Extreme sadness

Section 3- Strength

Even though I shared a story with you I’m not looking for you to tell me your story in your pictures.  I’m looking for you to show me the expression or feeling that you were going through during that time in your pictures.

My Example: Section 1- Happiness

I talked about my happy years of being in College and what a wonderful time of my life this was for me.  SO........ I need to first think of a location that I want to shoot my pictures at that are going to reflect that happy time for me.  So I would go out to Kent State (where I went to school) and take pictures that remind me of that happy time around the campus.  I’d probably first shoot pictures without me in them. And then I would set up the camera using my timer mode and take some pictures near places on campus that I truly remember as happy moments of being there. Like near my dorm that I stayed in my Sophomore year-I really loved that place and it brings back great memories all around-my mom used to come and visit me there a lot too.  OR-I worked at a Coffee shop in the Ratskeller that brings back some really fun and happy moments from my past.  So maybe I would go to those locations and shoot some pictures of me standing near or in front of them portraying some sort of happiness within my face and body expression.

REMEMBER:
Your face does not always need to be in the picture even though these are showing expressions and really self portraits.  Think about the pictures that we talked about on Monday.  Her face was not shown in every picture.  You need to look at the website links that I have on my blog about body movements to show expression and  really think about your angles and shots (also examples are listed on my blog) to give us a certain message.

YOU NEED TO PLAN OUT YOUR PICTURES AND THINK ABOUT HOW YOU CAN PORTRAY YOUR MESSAGE BEFORE YOU GO AND SHOOT.  Your background/location is VERY important.  THERE SHOULD BE MEANING TO YOUR ANGLES/SHOTS/BODY POSITION JUST LIKE YOU HAD MEANING IN YOUR STORY.

If you need help with this let me know and we can sit down and discuss it.
